• i can live with an afternoon seabreeze (and the drinks that went with it).
• televised golf tournaments end at 3pm on sunday afternoon. that's just not right!

i don't read wired magazine anymore but i guess in the may issue microsoft cto craig mundie has bet with google ceo eric schmidt that by the year 2030 united and and american airlines flights will be flown untirely by computers...no pilot on board.

i suppose that a whole lot of technical innovations (crap! i just fell into the microsoft trap of using that damn word) are bound to happen between now and then....but i don't think i'll ever,ever,ever feel comfortable entrusting a batch of software engineers with my life.

especially if they're from redmond, wa.

remember when home taping of lp's was sure to cause the downfall of the recording industry? i pulled out an old George Winston lp recently and a Windham Hill pamphlet fell out of it. inside there was a message from Will Ackerman (then ceo of Windham Hill Records):

Recently there has been a great deal of controversy regarding the widespread practice of home taping of phonograph records. Without reciting the pros and cons, or entering the debate in any way, I would like to point out the following. i do believe that Windham Hill actually cared about the music. i can't say that about most of the big labels these days.
